RE: PDF brochure 2004 Surveyor?

I think you're right. My stud finder will be able to verify there aren't any studs where I'm thinking. I have gutted the front of the trailer, a little moisture damage, and I never really liked the wardrobe in our '04 SV235RS. I found that getting items out of the bottom of the wardrobe was a big pain in the back. I know I would have so much more enjoyment out of having an exterior hatch directly to the right of the main entry door, and essentially utilize that space that was the lower portion of the "wardrobe." I'm thinking items like the camp stove, and campfire tools - basically stuff that gets dirty that I don;t want to have in bins just riding on the floor in the "cargo area" of the surveyor. As for no studs... I'd imagine a little ingenuity will be needed to attach some wooden studs to the fiberglass and the interior wall.

RE: PDF brochure 2004 Surveyor?

Interesting. My '04 "Surveyor" certainly is not glued and screwed. Furthermore, my '04 non-grand surveyor does not have an enclosed belly. Thanks, Craig

RE: PDF brochure 2004 Surveyor?

I'm calling FR. I was just curious about the "sales pitch" that FR was pushing when they were selling the '04 surveyor. Also I am curious about the roof and wall construction. Sounds like FR has sent some sort of documentation out to owners in the past. Thanks for your ides, Craig

RE: PDF brochure 2004 Surveyor?

I haven't contacted forest river yet. I'd be interested in seeing an '06 pdf. I'll PM you, ok? thanks craig

RE: Heater still comes on when thermostat is turned off

I had the same thought when I first brought home my TT. I thought I was hearing the blower of the furnace. Really, what I was hearing was the fan of my converter.

PDF brochure 2004 Surveyor?

Did anyone download the PDF Brochure of the 2004 Surveyor Travel Trailer? Do they still have it on their computer? Would you be willing to PM me a copy? I'm curious. The 2008 brochure shows that they "glue and screw" their cabinetry, and indicate the "competition" uses staples. Clearly, in my 2004 model year SV235RS they used the staple method. I'm also very interested in adding another exterior cargo hatch, but I want to know where the aluminum frame tubes are. Does anyone have a blueprint of the '04 SV235RS? :@ (I'm guessing Forest River would never let something like that out, but maybe in some tech manual...?) OK, have a nice day.

RE: Water under floor - what to do?

and replace the insulation that got wet Not saying your wrong but I can't understand replacing blanket fiberglass insulation that was wet. Fiberglass does not absorb water, and is not damaged by water. Even the paper vabor barrier is resistant to water damage. It ain't the fiberglass that will become the problem. It's the little nasties that move in (molds/bacteria/etc.) "bugs" like that LOVE high surface area places. Fiberglass has an EXTREMELY LARGE surface area, once you consider "bugs" will be able to live on each individual strand of the fiberglass.

RE: Portable waste tote mounting under TT

I know of one fellow who built a mount for his totes. Check out another web forum: rvitch.com and search the "that ain't stock" section.

RE: the queen is gone

Quick question for the OP: How did you locate the "studs" on the wall? or, how are you supporting the new cabinets?

RE: the queen is gone

Wow! that's a great idea! For all the TT's without walk-around beds, this would solve the "rolling over the spouse to goto the bathroom in the middle of the night" problem. (Except for the trailers that have a rear-slide Q bed.) Nice job.

RE: QUESTIONS BEFITTING A NEWBY

for me the "sulfur water" isn't too bad an issue, since our drinking water is typically bottled.

RE: Camping World dump site closed forever

Should the 90% of the "good" clean up and tidy up the dump stations after the 10% "bad" wreck the site? If you "good" people have never cleaned up a dump station then maybe you shouldn't complain that the free dump stations are going away.

RE: TT Refrigerator

how long did you wait before you determined that the fridge did not cool?

RE: Charging trailer battery

Are you thinking of a battery isolator? An isolator will prevent current from flowing back into the truck from the cargo trailer battery, but the truck would still be able to charge the battery. Or are you thinking of a charge controller? Solar systems need a charge controller to cut out voltage when the battery needs only the "float" charge.

RE: Why I can't use stabilizer jacks to level TT???

...Look at the Calibrated level on the front and notice where the bubble lands, if fit lands say at #2, you will need two inches of some kind of blocking under the wheels of the low side... Calibrated levels Why didn't someone tell me this before? My directions gave me some multiplier (not a whole number, if I recall) to use X the number on the level and something about it being the lowest "corner" needing the lift. In my stupid head, it's all about leveing "side to side"... THEN... fore and aft. To simply see a #2 on the level meaning "two inches of lift is needed" is pretty elementary to me. I'll have to see if I can find the old directions again. Those multipliers that you are talking about are when you are leveling a Motor home, and are adjusting the (4) corners. (like when the dining room table has 2 legs that are different length.) The TT is closer to a tripod - like a 3 legged stool. To properly level a tripod you only need to adjust two of the "legs" and hold one "leg" fixed. So mathematically you are only adjusting (2) planes. The calibrated levels are parallel to those two planes.

RE: New TT Linoleum Issue

I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. And most of my home repair projects involve 2x4 construction, glue, and screws. So, in other words, I over-design and over-construct most things I do. That being said, if Forest River constructed my TT the "Right Way" I guarantee that I could never possibly afford the trailer, nor could I afford the one-ton truck, nor could I afford to keep a big one-ton on the road with maintenance and fuel. So... I compromised. I have a nice travel trailer that I can haul with my little half ton, neither the truck nor the trailer put me in the poor house, and I the wife and I weekend warrior about 7 times a year. Is my trailer without imperfections? of course its not perfect. In fact, the front step is punching through the subfloor as we speak, because Forest River didn't support the foldout step properly. Do any of you hear me complaining? nope. Maybe if I didn't eat so many donuts my step would have lasted longer. The point is... these camping units would cost A LOT more if they were constructed as rugged as our residential homes. We in America have wooden houses still in existence that were built in 1620. That's over 300 years old! How many 30 year old campers are still pounding down our hiways and biways? Sure the RV manufacturers are trying to make a buck. But they wouldn't mass produce them unless we wanted them. Life is a compromise between value and price. The RV industry is no different.

RE: New TT Linoleum Issue

The lino is placed on the floor FIRST. That's before any walls, cabinets, equipment, anything! In order to "fix" this "problem" they would have to remove the floor, probably part of the luan, and retrofit a floor back into the trailer. At what cost? do you seriously think the warranty would cover something like that? Your out of your mind if you do. My guess - the OP is screwed. He'll have to do the repair himself, live with it, or try and take the dealer & manufacturer to court under the lemon law.

RE: brake controller setting

Best bet is to follow the direction included with the BC. It's too important to listen to SWAG's. OK. I'll bite: What's "SWAG" stand for?

RE: Is there an "Official" Trailering School?

well, it looks like there are a few "official" schools out there. Thanks for the posts. Now hopefully one will come to New England. I certainly am not a professional driver, nor do I have 30+ years hauling, but I don't consider myself a greenhorn or a "newbie" either. I can blindside my TT into any campsite on my first shot like a pro, but I still would pay for a day long seminar to learn from professionals. I guess the point I was trying to make was too often in the "information age" people are more likely to listen to the advice/recommendations from a complete stranger over an anonymous internet forum rather than take the time to speak with a human being face to face, either standing behind the parts counter, or in a class room setting. Without sounding too much like my parents, where did the old days go? :W Have fun out there
